For me, there’s no better feeling I can get than after a good work out and a healthy meal. Not only can living a healthier lifestyle potentially lead you to live a longer life but also a happier one. Eating healthier gives you a lot of benefits with a little bit of effort. You might be thinking, ‘What’s the point? I’m young and I should eat whatever I want now.’ Well, you couldn’t be further from the truth because whatever you put into your body now will eventually affect it in the future so it’s important to support your body now in order for it to live up to its fullest potential. Or, if you’re already in your elder years, you could be thinking, ‘Why start now?’ The answer to your question would be because eating better can benefit your weight, your immune system, your mood, and your energy.
A CNN article regarding health read this, "There's no question the immune system fundamentally is influenced by overall health -- and a balanced diet is key," says David Katz, M.D., M.P.H., director of the Yale Prevention Research Center in New Haven, Connecticut. "Not only are essential nutrients critical for the production and maintenance of key germ-fighting cells in the immune system, but a balanced diet also has a strong effect on vascular function, and the immune system is dependent on blood flow," Katz says. What Katz is basically saying is that vitamins and nutrients found in healthier foods run through the blood stream and then fight off infections throughout the body.
Through my searching of healthy eating, I found a great website that breaks down the benefits of healthy eating, what is considered junk food, which healthy foods to buy, and making healthy choices. One thing to be aware of is the list of diet-related diseases that can develop at the age of 40: heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, strokes, adult-onset diabetes, some cancers, and osteoporosis. By eating better, you can avoid most, if not all, of these diseases and more common diseases like a cold or flu. So before you reach for the cough medicine, start by filling up your plate with fruits and vegetables that are high in vitamins A and C.
There’s no doubt that eating better will help you live better!
